How Rollout's Float Transport Request Works
When you hire civil construction equipment through Rollout, getting the machine to your site is as important as the hire itself. Most machinery — excavators, dozers, graders, dump trucks — cannot travel on public roads under their own power. A float (truck and trailer) is required.
Rollout's float transport request system lets you arrange machine delivery and collection directly through the booking process — no separate phone calls, no finding your own carrier, no guesswork on rates. Here's exactly how it works.
Overview
The float transport request is an optional add-on to any Rollout hire booking. When you submit a hire request for a machine, you can simultaneously request float transport. Rollout coordinates with its network of approved transport partners to provide a quote and, once accepted, arrange the movement.
The transport is quoted and charged separately from the machine hire — you see both line items clearly before confirming.
Step-by-step: requesting float transport through Rollout
Step 1: Find the machine you want to hire
Browse listings at rollout.net.au/listings, filter by machine type and location, and select the machine that suits your project. Review the listing photos, specs, available dates, and daily rate.
Step 2: Select your hire dates
On the listing page, select your hire start and end date. The availability calendar shows which dates the machine is free.
Step 3: Submit your hire request — include the transport request
On the booking request form, you'll see a section for Float Transport. Tick this option and provide:
- Delivery address: Your site address, or the closest accessible point to your site
- Pickup address: Pre-filled from the owner's listed location — confirm or update if different
- Access notes: Any relevant information about your site access — gate width, overhead clearances, ground conditions, weight-limited roads nearby, permit-restricted routes
- Preferred delivery window: The date and time window you need the machine on site (typically the hire start date, morning)
- Collection requirements: Whether you need the machine collected at the end of the hire, and any specific collection window
Step 4: Owner accepts your hire request
The machine owner reviews and accepts (or declines) your hire request within 24 hours. Once they accept, your hire is confirmed — but payment is not yet taken.
Step 5: Rollout obtains a transport quote
Once the hire is confirmed, Rollout contacts its network of approved transport partners with the job details:
- Machine make, model, operating weight, and dimensions
- Pickup location (owner's address)
- Delivery location (your site address)
- Required delivery and collection dates
Rollout aims to provide a transport quote within 24 hours of the hire being confirmed. For remote or complex jobs — very large machines, permit requirements, remote locations — allow additional time.
Step 6: You review and accept the transport quote
Rollout presents the transport quote to you within the booking. You'll see:
- Transport provider details
- Estimated delivery and collection windows
- Total transport cost (delivery + collection if applicable)
You accept the quote and both the hire payment and transport payment are captured through Stripe. Both remain held (not yet released to the owner or transport partner) until the hire commences.
Step 7: Transport partner contacts you directly
Once the transport is confirmed, the transport partner contacts you directly (via the contact details on your Rollout account) to confirm the exact delivery window, any final access instructions, and the contact name on site for the delivery.
Step 8: Machine delivered to site
On the agreed delivery date, the float arrives at your site. The driver will:
- Position the trailer at the agreed drop point
- Release the machine from its chains and binders
- Supervise or assist the machine being driven off the float
- Complete any required delivery paperwork
The machine is now on site and your hire has commenced. At this point, the hire payment is released to the machine owner and the transport payment is released to the transport partner.
Step 9: End of hire — machine collection
On or before your hire end date, ensure the machine is:
- Returned to the agreed collection point on site
- Fuelled or at the agreed fuel level
- Clean of excessive mud and debris (particularly on tracks — mud on tracks is prohibited on public roads)
- Free of any attachments that weren't included in the hire
The transport partner arrives in the agreed collection window, loads the machine, and returns it to the owner's location.
Step 10: Leave a review
After the hire completes, both you and the owner are prompted to leave a review. Reviews cover the machine condition, owner communication, and overall hire experience — building the trust layer that makes the platform work for everyone.
What if my site is hard to access?
Remote sites, mining leases, tight suburban locations, and sites with weight-limited roads all present transport challenges. The key is providing this information upfront when you submit the transport request.
Rollout's transport partners are experienced in complex access — narrow tracks, bush sites, mine site entry requirements, residential areas with overhead power lines. With enough notice, most access challenges can be planned around:
- A smaller float if the full-size semi won't fit
- A different drop point near the site
- Special permits or escorts arranged in advance
- Modified timing to avoid peak access restrictions
Always communicate access constraints early — surprises on delivery day are expensive and disruptive for everyone.
What transport partners does Rollout use?
Rollout works with a network of approved heavy haulage and plant transport operators across Australia. Partners are vetted for:
- Appropriate licence and accreditation
- Correct float ratings for the machine types they carry
- Insurance and public liability coverage
- Experience with civil construction plant transport
You will be informed of the specific transport partner before confirming the transport quote.
Can I use my own float transport?
Yes. Using Rollout's transport service is optional. If you have your own float, or a preferred transport contractor, you can arrange transport independently. Simply coordinate pickup with the machine owner through Rollout's messaging system.
If self-arranging, ensure your float is rated for the machine's operating weight and that you hold any required road transport permits for the machine size and route.
FAQ
Do I have to use Rollout's float transport? No — it's optional. You can arrange your own float and coordinate pickup directly with the owner through Rollout messaging.
How long does a transport quote take? Rollout aims for 24 hours after hire confirmation. Allow more time for remote locations or large machines requiring permits.
Is float transport included in the hire rate? No. It's a separate line item — both are shown clearly before you confirm.
What if my site has restricted access? Provide all access details when submitting your transport request — gate width, overhead clearances, ground conditions, restricted roads. Transport partners can plan around most challenges with advance notice.
